We have recently developed a set of GIF animations to support SLPs who are treating clients or students with residual /ɹ/ errors. These GIFs are designed to support SLPs in describing the phonetic characteristics of correct /ɹ/ production. There are separate sets of GIFs for use with students/clients who produce bunched /ɹ/ or retroflex /ɹ/. Within these categories, there are individual GIFs emphasizing movement of the anterior portion of the tongue, the tongue body, and the tongue root. There is also a GIF emphasizing lateral elevation.
Note: if you need a quick refresher of the phonetic characteristics of correct /ɹ/ production, please review our tutorial article (open access link at PubMed Central) and the accompanying infographic.
